Ganderbal, June 1 (PTK): Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal, Jatin Kishore, on Sunday urged the people of the district to participate in large numbers in the Mega Padyatra scheduled to be held on June 5 at Qamaria Stadium, Ganderbal, as part of the ongoing Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir campaign.
Addressing a press conference, the Deputy Commissioner informed that the Mega Padyatra will be led by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and will serve as a major public outreach event aimed at strengthening the anti-drug movement across the Union Territory.
Appealing to citizens from all sections of society, the DC called upon youth, students, traders, civil society members, religious scholars, industrialists and community representatives to actively participate in the event and contribute towards making the campaign a grand success.
He said that under the leadership of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, a 100-day intensive anti-drug campaign is being conducted across Jammu and Kashmir with the objective of creating a drug-free society and protecting the younger generation from the menace of substance abuse.
“The fight against drugs is not the responsibility of the administration alone. It requires active support and participation from every citizen. Together we can build a healthier and safer future for our youth,” the DC said.
Highlighting the progress achieved so far, Jatin Kishore said the campaign has received an encouraging response from the public over the past several weeks, with awareness programmes being conducted extensively in villages, schools, colleges and communities across the district.
He said a series of awareness activities, including rallies, skits, seminars and public outreach programmes, have been organised through coordinated efforts of the District Administration, Police Department, Health Department, Social Welfare Department, School Education Department and other stakeholders.
The Deputy Commissioner noted that the overwhelming response from the people has transformed the anti-drug initiative into a mass movement in Ganderbal district.
Earlier, the DC, accompanied by Senior Superintendent of Police Ganderbal, Sudhanshu Dhama, held an extensive interaction with civil society members, traders, hoteliers, industrialists, religious scholars, community representatives and other stakeholders to strengthen public participation in the upcoming rally.
During the interaction, participants expressed strong support for the campaign and assured the administration of their active involvement in the Mega Padyatra.
Addressing the gathering, the DC reiterated that drug abuse poses a serious challenge to society and can only be effectively tackled through collective action and community participation. He said the positive response witnessed during the past one-and-a-half months demonstrates growing public awareness and commitment towards eliminating the drug menace.
He reaffirmed the district administration’s commitment to intensifying the anti-drug campaign and ensuring wider public engagement in the collective effort to build a drug-free Ganderbal and Jammu & Kashmir.
